Menu Groups

How to organize items into menu groups in the Utilities app.

Accessing the Utilities App

To change any and all things menu related for your course on the Clubhaus Platform, you must use the Utilities app.

Go to the following address to access the Utilities app: https://utilities.joinclubhaus.com/

What It Does

Menu groups organize your items into categories within a revenue center. Think of them as the sections on a printed menu: "Appetizers," "Draft Beer," "Lunch Specials," "Soft Drinks," and so on. Golfers browse by group when they open a revenue center in the app, so good organization makes ordering faster and easier.

How It Works (Step by Step)

  • From the main page, click "Revenue Centers" in the sidebar.
  • Click on the revenue center you want to manage (for example, "Clubhouse Grill"). You see the list of menu groups for that revenue center.
  • To add a new group, click the "Add Group" button.
  • Enter the group details: Name (what golfers see as the category heading, for example "Sandwiches") and Visible (toggle whether this group is shown or hidden in the golfer app).
  • Click Save to create the group.
  • To reorder groups, drag and drop them into the order you want. The top group appears first to golfers.
  • To edit a group, click on its name to open the edit form. Change the name or visibility and click Save.
  • To manage the items in a group, click into the group to see its Menu Items.
  • To hide a group temporarily, toggle the visibility switch off. The group and all its items disappear from the golfer app but remain in your dashboard for later use.

What the User Sees

The revenue center name at the top (for example, "Clubhouse Grill").

  • A list of menu groups in their current display order, each showing the group name, a visibility toggle (on/off), the number of items in the group, and a drag handle for reordering.
  • An "Add Group" button to create a new category.
  • When you click into a group, you see the list of Menu Items that belong to it.

When Things Go Wrong

  • Group won't save: Make sure the group name is not empty. Check if another group in the same revenue center already has the same name.
  • Golfers cannot see the group in the app: Check that the visibility toggle is turned on. Also confirm the group has at least one visible item inside it.
  • Reordering does not stick: Make sure you wait for the save confirmation after reordering. Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, log out and back in.
  • Cannot delete a group: Groups with items inside them may need to be emptied first. Move or delete the items, then try deleting the group again.
  • Wrong items are showing in a group: Check if the items were accidentally added to the wrong group. Edit the item and reassign it to the correct group.

Tips and Gotchas

  • Group names should be clear and familiar. Golfers expect categories like "Burgers," "Salads," or "Beer" — not internal codes like "Group 3" or "FBG-LUNCH."
  • Visibility is your best friend for seasonal menus. Instead of deleting summer specials when fall arrives, just toggle the group off. Turn it back on next summer with everything intact.
  • Order matters. Put your most popular groups at the top. If 80% of golfers order from "Sandwiches," make it the first group they see.
  • Empty groups are invisible. Even if a group is toggled as visible, golfers will not see it if it has zero items. Add at least one item before expecting it to show up.
  • Keep group names short. Long names get cut off on mobile screens. "Draft Beer" is better than "Our Selection of Draft Beers on Tap."
  • You can have as many groups as you need, but fewer is usually better for golfers. Five to eight groups per revenue center is a good target. Too many groups makes browsing slow.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Can I move an item from one group to another? A: Yes. Edit the item and change its assigned group.
  • Q: If I hide a group, do the items inside it get deleted? A: No. Hiding a group just removes it from the golfer app. All items remain saved and ready to go when you toggle the group back on.
  • Q: Can the same item appear in two different groups? A: Within the same revenue center, each item belongs to one group. If you want a "Cheeseburger" in both "Lunch" and "Late Night," you would create it as a separate item in each group, which also lets you set different prices if needed.
  • Q: Is there a limit to how many groups I can create? A: There is no hard limit, but we recommend keeping it manageable. If you have more than 10 groups in a single revenue center, consider whether some could be combined.
  • Q: How do I know what order golfers see the groups in? A: The order on your screen is the exact order golfers see in the app. Drag groups up or down to change the order.
  • Q: Can I duplicate a group and all its items? A: Currently, groups need to be created individually. If you need a similar group in another revenue center, you will need to create it and its items from scratch.
